Choosing a unit convention

Hertz, RPM and the period of a cycle
Hertz measures cycles per second. RPM measures revolutions per minute, so a rotational frequency expressed in RPM is divided by sixty to become revolutions per second. The interpretation assumes one counted cycle per revolution; sensors or machines can report multiple events during a revolution. Frequency and period are reciprocal quantities rather than two scales of the same direct unit amount. Wavelength also requires a propagation speed, which depends on the medium and wave type. A simple frequency-prefix conversion does not supply that physical context. Keep the counted event and signal description alongside its numerical frequency.
